The iconic ornate mosaic chimneys and stone ventilation towers on the roofs of properties in Barcelona designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. The chimneys are also known as espanta bruixes are designed and constructed in a variety of styles and materials from carefully worked sandstone to broken glass bottles.
Antoni Gaudi is the most internationally prestigious figure in Spanish architecture and design. He was born in Reus, in Catalonia and graduated in Barcelona in 1878. Gaudi was a master designer of the complete building incorporating wrought iron, furniture, stained glass, sculptural work, mosaics and ceramics. His bold iconic work can been seen all across Barcelona.
