Wales Millennium Centre
Wales Millennium Centre opened in 2004 by Her Majesty The Queen dominates the landscape of the redeveloped Cardiff Bay area. The centre is a World class iconic arts and cultural venue.
The vision of the centre is to be an internationally significant cultural landmark and venue for the performing arts, renowned for inspiration, excellence and leadership. The front of the building features a striking façade with copper oxide coated sheet steel cladding with a bilingual inscription written by poet Gwyneth Lewis. The inscription reads- In These Stones Horizons Sing and, Creu Gwir Fel Gwydr o Ffwrnais Awen which translates as Creating truth like glass from the furnace of inspiration.
When you see Wales Millennium Centre you will see that it can only have been designed and built in Wales. The brief to the architects, Percy Thomas, was that it had to be “unmistakably Welsh and internationally outstanding”.
